Frances H. "Helen" Alden, 91, of Van, Cranberry Township, died at 6:30
a.m. Wednesday, March 19, 2008, in Sugar Creek Station, Franklin,
where she had resided since January 2007.

Born Nov. 12, 1916, in Nickleville, she was the daughter of the late Lyle W. and Sarah Eva Shaner Bell. Mrs. Alden was a 1934 graduate of Emlenton High School.

She was a member of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church where she served as a deacon and belonged to the Presbyterian Women's Association. She also was involved in a crocheting and quilting group at the church for many years. Mrs. Alden was a homemaker who enjoyed reading, flowers, vegetable
gardening, and spending time with her family.

She was married Sept. 24, 1949, to Merle John Alden, who preceded her in death March 6, 1977.

Surviving are three children, Gene Alden and wife, Mitzi, of Emlenton, Robert Alden and wife, Jill, of Franklin and Janet Sanford and husband, Daniel, of Emlenton; eight grandchildren, Kayne Alden of Franklin, Jena Weber and husband, Bryan, of Havelock, N.C., Jesse Alden of Clarion, Sarah DeLong and husband, Ben, of Seneca Falls, N.Y., Samuel Alden of Greenville, Hilary Sanford of Franklin and Benjamin and Zachary Sanford, both of Emlenton; and numerous nieces,nephews and cousins.

Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Violet Alden Morrison of Seneca and Freda Bell Wilson of Franklin.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Alden was preceded in death by a brother, Ralph Bell.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, in the Hile-Best Funeral Home, 2781 Route 257 in Seneca, CranberryTownship.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 26, in the funeral home, with the Rev. Sue Montgomery, pastor of the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, officiating.

Interment will follow in the Nickleville Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nickleville Presbyterian Church, 169 Valley Church Road, Emlenton, 16373.
