Born November 26, 1923 in Oil City, he was the son of George and Evelyn Amsden.
On February 28, 1946, he was married to the former Margaret "Peggy" Rodenbaugh, who survives. They celebrated 63 years of marriage last February.
Richard was a 1942 graduate of Oil City High School and was a lifelong resident of Oil City who spent several years working in car and insurance sales in the area before joining the local carpenters' union. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but later his interest turned to collectibles and antiques. This was an interest that he pursued full time after retiring from carpentry. He was very knowledgeable and passionate about antiques and enjoyed collecting, dealing and attending auctions and flea markets in the area, and being in the company of those who shared this interest. He was also passionate in his love of dogs and animals, taking in strays over the years.
In addition to his wife Peggy, he is survived by two sons, Michael and his wife Patricia of North Haverhill, NH, and Thomas Amsden of Oil City; a daughter-in-law, Kim Amsden of Oil City, two grandsons, Jarrett Amsden and wife Carrie of Indianapolis, IN, and Trey Amsden and wife Julie of Polk, PA; three granddaughters, Autumn Amsden of Grove City, Adrienne Sexton of Cleveland, OH, and Angela Hannett of North Haverhill, NH; two great granddaughters, Carolyn, Hayley and Madison Amsden of Polk, PA; and a niece, Linda Sampsell of Oil City.
In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by a son, Gary Amsden, and a sister, Wanda Amsden.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, November 14, at Morrison Funeral Home.
Interment will be in Brandon Cemetery.
