David was born to Martin and Clara Baumgarten on September 5, 1943, in the Town of Freedom, Sauk County, Wisconsin, who baptized him in Christ on September 26. He was confirmed in the faith in 1957 at St John Lutheran Church in Rock Springs.
David graduated from Webb High School, Reedsburg, in 1961. On August 17, 1968, he married Carol Behn at St. Peter's, Loganville. Carol and David were blessed with two childdren, Jeff and Sara.
He lived the life of a servant, walking in the step of his Lord, serving his family, his neighbors, and his nation. He served his nation in the Army National Guard, as a husband and parent, in countless musical endeavors, and as a leader in his church and community. In his work he was conscientious, dedicated and loyal. Dave could talk to anyone, whether a friend, customer, or stranger, and make them feel comfortable. He lived by example, and his example will stay with us always. "For the Lord is good; his mercy is everlasting, and his truth endureth to all generations." (Psalm 100.5)
He was preceded in death by his parents, his siblings Lois Strobel, Lyle Baumgarten, and Charlene Lauersdorf, brother-in-law Richard Strobel, sister-in-law Lorena Baumgarten, and numerous aunts and uncles. He is survived by his wife Carol; son Jeff, his wife Rececca and children Liam, Koen and Lilah; daughter Sara Kreuter, her husband David, and children Elswyth and Thalcia; brother-in-law Bill (Tricia) Behn; brother-in-law Carl (Kay) Behn; brother-in-law Richard Lauersdorf, Aunt Violet Vinz; Uncle Melvin Baumgarten; Aunt Mary Ellen Baumgarten; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He will be dearly missed by his family, church families and many friends and neighbors, so many of whom have given their support during this sad time.
Funeral services were held Monday, August 7 at St. John Ev. Lutheran Church in Rock Springs with Rev. David Karow officiating.
"For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Romans 6:23)
