Jimmy Joe Alvis, 52, of Champaign died Sunday, December 9, 2001 at Provena Covenant Medical Center, Urbana, Illinois. Memorial services will be conducted on December 29 at Mansfield United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Mansfield Cemetery. Mr. Alvis was cremated. A reception will be from 6-8 pm today at Renner-Wikoff Chapel, Urbana.

Mr. Alvis was born March 18, 1949 at Burnham City Hospital, Urbana, son of Joseph Edwin and Mildred Pearl Hannah Alvis. Surviving are his girlfriend, Susie Andrews, of Urbana; two sisters: JoAnn (Howard) Gust, Wheaton and Jeanine (Art) McHenry of Villa Grove; an aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. Richard "Corky" Hannah of Mansfield; Aunts Dorothy Gentry of Greenup, Georgia Wooldridge of Farmer City, and Marge O'Brien of Florida; four nieces and seven nephews; and many more cousins. He was preceded in death by three brothers: John, Jerry and Jack Alvis, and one nephew.

Mr. Alvis graduated from Mansfield High School in 1967. He was a salesperson for Bill Smith Auto Parts, Urbana, for 20 years. He served during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post 650, Mansfield. He was an avid motorcycle and auto racing fan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Legion Post 650, Mansfield.
