Dorothy Abbott was born on September 29, 1918, in Dallas to Myrtle Ballanfant and Edward James O'Leary. Dorothy passed away on March 18, 2011 in Dallas, Texas. Dorothy grew up in Dallas and graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. After graduation, she began working for Oil Well Supply. In 1939 she met and married Charles A. Abbott, beginning a 57 year marriage. In addition to raising and being active in the lives of her two sons she enjoyed gardening, her greenhouse and growing orchids. With her husband and sons she developed a passion for golf and played regularly. She also loved working with her hands and the art of decoupage. These interests led her to be a long time member of the Green Thumb Garden Club, Marianne Scruggs Garden Club and the Dallas Woman's Club. As a member of the Dallas Country Club's Women's Golf Association, she utilized her skills as a photographer in her longtime role as the Association's historian. For over 70 years she was a member of the Highland Park United Methodist Church and she and Charles particularly enjoyed the Mr. and Mrs. Class in their later years. Her friends and family knew her as a warm, friendly, caring and, most of all, humble person. She is survived by her son, Tom and his wife, Becky, and their children, Lee Kiblinger and her husband, Greg, and their children, Ben, Lauren and Nathan; Kelly Morris and her husband, Neal, and their son, Thomas; and Scott Abbott. She is also survived by her son, Bob and his wife, Lynn, and their children, Chandler Renner and her husband, Robert, and their children, Ashley, Trey and Andrew; Elizabeth McCrary and her husband, Sean, and their children, Caleb and Connor; and Todd Abbott. The family wishes to express its appreciation to all of Dorothy's caregivers during the last years of her life. Memorial services 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Chapel East of Hillcrest Mausoleum, Rev. Bill Smith, officiating. Entombment Hillcrest Garden Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to Highland Park United Methodist Church, 3300 Mockingbird Lane, Dallas TX 75205, or a charity of your choice.
