Leota M. Black, age 88 of Prescott, passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009 at Bortz Health Care in West Branch. Leota had lived in Prescott since 1978, formerly of Troy. Leota was a school teacher in a one room school house and she enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and baking for her grandchildren.
Leota is survived by her children, Donna Hoffman of West Branch, Shan (Jerry) Trapp of Troy, James (Suzanne) Black of Waterford, Robert (Mary Ann) Black of Indian River and Cindy (Frank) Sprout of Lake City, MN, 10 grandchildren and her brothers and sisters, Bud Currie and Marion Houston both of Waterford, Lois Best and Connie (Bill) Cliff both of Prescott, Donna Misner of Flint, Jean (Frank) Sowa of Swartz Creek and Janet (Don) Templin of Bay City and her sister in law, Betty Currie of Prescott. She was preceded in death by her husband Colton, her daughter Linda Black and her brother, Jim Currie.

Visitation at the Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch will begin Friday, January 16, 2009 from 5-9 p.m. On Saturday, Leota will lie in state at the Calvary Baptist Church in West Branch beginning at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Tom Teall will officiate. Burial will take place at Richland Cemetery, Prescott.
