"Tilden S. Martin Sr., 69, of Lumberton, died Tuesday at New Hanover Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
Prior to returning to Lumberton in 1976, Martin was a long time resident of Oxford where he was active with the business and civic community and youth sports. He was a general manager of Rayless Dept. Stores, then Sales Manager of Suburban Propane until his retirement. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, serving as chairman among other officers.
The funeral is 2 p.m. Friday at Biggs Funeral Chapel, the Rev. Russell T. Cherry officiating. Burial will be in the Gardens of Faith Cemetery.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Melba Byrd Martin; a daughter, Ms. Norris L. Edge of Raleigh; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Tyner of Lumberton, Mrs. Mary Ellen Jones of Hampton, Va. and Mrs. Joyce Wall of Charlotte; five brothers, Worth Martin, Howard Martin, David Martin, and William Martin, all of Lumberton, and Fred Martin of Tar Heel; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7-9 tonight at Biggs Funeral Home."
