Garnet Evelyn married Charles Wallace Abshear and had 2 children. Divorced and then married - Garnet Evelyn married Carl Joseph Hubert and had 6 children. She was Born July 31, 1920 and passed away on 15 Oct 1974 in Forestville, Maryland at the age of 54 yrs old. Brother, Thomas Michael A. Abshear, Born 1952 and Died 1999 in Maryland,USA.

***** Eddieb, I noticed that you had taken responsibility for the site of William Abshear at Fort Bliss, Texas. My brother served in the same Battalion as my brother and they would have been there during the same time frame. I have always wondered why William is buried at Fort Bliss, Texas. I live in El Paso and I have been by his site on several occasions. I worked on findagave for 4 years and one of my virtual cemeteries is for every one of the 317 soldiers who were KIA serving in the 2nd Battalion, 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division in Vietnam. One of the 2 bios I have written on FAG is for the man who was my brother and William's Battalion Commander. One of my hobbies is studying my genealogy and the other is researching military history with a great deal of focus on the 2nd of the 60th. Under the command of LTC Mahaffey, this was one of the most elite combat units in Vietnam and also one of the most decorated units. I just want to thank you for the wonderful job you have done with this hero's site

***** I knew him as Billy.He was not from my neighborhood(Mt.Rainier Queenstown Apts),but he knew somebody in Queenstown and would come to visit occasionally. We all played basketball on the court behind the apts.and that's how i met him. We played basketball and hung out together when he visited. I think my friend Paul Lucas would remember him too! This would have been around 1966 or 67. I always thought he had plenty of grit. R.I.P.Billy,you are a true patriot.
