Palmina Martinelli, a soli 14 anni, morì arsa viva nel bagno della propria casa. Venne trovata ancora in fiamme dal fratello maggiore, Antonio, che rientrando sentì odore di bruciato e i suoi deboli lamenti. La ragazzina aveva cercato di spegnere il fuoco sotto la doccia, ma in quel momento, per sua grande sfortuna, mancava l'acqua. Il fratello la caricò in auto, portandola subito al pronto soccorso del più vicino ospedale. Da quel momento, Palmina, sopportò 22 lunghi giorni di sofferenza, mentre i medici tentavano disperatamente di salvarle la vita. Non fu possibile, data la gravità e l'estensione delle ustioni. Prima che morisse, un Magistrato, munito di registratore a nastro, la interrogò, chiedendo cosa fosse successo e chi fosse stato. La ragazza era lucida, ancora in grado di capire e di rispondere, anche se con una voce appena percettibile. Rispose "Alcool e fiammifero" e fece i nomi di due ragazzi all'epoca circa ventenni. Di uno dei due, fece anche il cognome ed era il suo ragazzo. Dell'altro, rispose "Non so". I due volevano costringerla a prostituirsi e lei si era fermamente ribellata e opposta. In seguito a varie udienze processuali, furono entrambe scagionati per insufficienza di prove e tutt'ora risultano persone libere. In aula venne anche fatto ascoltare il nastro registrato, ma alla conclusione del processo, si chiuse il caso come suicidio dovuto alla disperazione. Moltissime persone ancora ai nostri giorni, sono convinte che il dramma si svolse in maniera diversa e che non fu suicidio. Recentemente, a Palmina Martinelli, la sua Città natale, ha dedicato una piccola piazza in suo ricordo ed a ricordo della sua immane tragedia.
