On 26 August 1870, the couple and their children Katy and Archibald lived in Traverse City. Benjamin worked in a saw mill. They owned $600 in personal property.
In April 1872, Benjamin offered for sale four horse teams, three lumber wagons, and four sets of double harness. Cheap for cash, or for well-secured paper.
On 16 June 1880, Benjamin and Ellen lived with their daughter Kate in Traverse City. He worked as a teamster while Ellen kept house. In 1882, Benjamin petitioned for the formation of Garfield township in Grand Traverse County.
Benjamin applied for a Civil War invalid's pension in 1888. He died on 9 March 1897 from a cerebral hemorrhage. Ellen applied for a widow's pension in April 1897.
Ellen was living at 533 Randolph Street in Traverse City on 22 June 1900. She shared the home with her daughter Kate, who was working as a milliner.
Ellen died from acute gastro-enteritison 1 May 1908 in Pontiac, Oakland County, Michigan.
Benjamin and Ellen were buried in Oakwood Cemetery.
