Harvey H. Avery was born in November 1839/1844 in Port Sarnia, Canada, son of Charles Avery and Mary Patterson. He came to the United State in 1855. He has not been lcoated on the 1860 census.

Harvey served on the gunboat Nymph during the Civil War. He has not been located on the 1870 or 1880 censuses, perhaps because he was working as a traveling salesman.

In 1890, "Harve" Avery lived in Garfield township. In 1895, Harvey was working in New Orleans.

Harvey was married on 15 March 1899 in Traverse City to Frances May Wilhelm. At the time of the marriage he was a traveling salesman. Demas Cochlin, pastor of the 1st Congregation Church, conducted the ceremony, with Thomas Wilhelm and Rose Wilhelm were witnesses. Frances was born on 13 October 1870 in Michigan, daughter of John Wilhelm and Victoria Peteryl.

On 8 June 1900, Harvey and Frances lived on St. Charles Street in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana. He worked as a hardwood salesman.

On 18 April 1910, the couple, their daughter Frances, and a niece Anna Ming lived at 202 W. 8th Street. He worked as a salesman for E. C. Atkins Saws.

On 2 January 1920, the couple lived at 202 W. 8th Street in Traverse City with their daughter Frances and Harvey's brother Truman. Harvey was working as a commercial salesman for a saw manufacturer.

Harvey died on 5 December 1924. Frances died on 29 July 1941.

Harvey and Frances were buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

Harvey and Frances (Wilhelm) Avery were the parents of one child:

i. FRANCES HELEN AVERY was born on 27 September 1901 in Traverse City.
