William F. Augustine was born on 1 April 1847 in Ohio, son of Eli Augustine and Eliza A. (–?–). He was married circa 1885 to Jennie E. Claflin. Jennie was born in December 1861 in New York.

On 28 August 1850, William lived with his parents and siblings Sarah, Sarepta, Cyrus, Malanethan, and Ann in Mornoe, Richland County, Ohio.

On 26 July 1860, William lived with his parents and siblings Sarah, Sarepta, Cyrus, Melanathan, Elisa, John, James, Martha, and Almira in Unity, Columbiana County, Ohio. He had attended school in the previous year.

William enlisted as a Private on 2 May 1864 in Company F of the 143rd Ohio Infantry. He was mustered out on 13 September 1864 at Camp Chase, Ohio.

On 30 August 1870, William worked as a farmer and lived in Rapid River, Kalkaska County, Michigan. He owned $400 in real estate and $100 in personal property.

On 21 August 1880, William lived in Buena Vista, Saginaw County, Michigan. He was working as a servant for Charles and Mary Gates.

He has not been located on the 1890 Veteran's Schedule.

On 11 June 1900, William and Jennie rented a house at 318 Front Street with their son Charles and Jennie's mother Laura Bufington. No occupation is listed for William on the census.

On 2 April 1910, the couple and their son Charles lived at 318 Front Street in Traverse City. William was working as a cleaner and presser of clothes. Son Charles worked as a machinist for a "picture machine" (movie projectionist).

William died at his home in Traverse City on 30 October 1914 from arterioschlerosis. Jennie died on 11 November 1922. They are buried in Oakwood Cemetery.

William and Jennie (Claffin) Augustine were the parents of one child:

i. CHARLES A. AUGUSTINE was born in April 1887 in Michigan. Charles was married to Lauretta Valleau in 1911 and to Pearl M. Machado in 1914.
