"Mama Addie" was known for her warm, and kind nature, and good cooking ! , she welcomed anyone, in need into her home. During the Civil Rights Movement she was one of the "unsung heros" that let "Freedom Riders" ,from the North, stay at her house, even though ,during the early 60's ,this was considered DANGEROUS, she never showed any fear! She lived a life of gentle, loving dignity, serving as both a Mother at home, and at her Chruch.
Even as her final days approched , she did not complain, she said "I am going into the hospital, because I do not feel so well", what we did not know was she was a Diabetic, and within 3 weeks of going in the hospital, she had a stroke, and died, from total organ failure , on February 6th 1993. She leaves seven children, Brendalyn,of Atlanta,GA. Deborah White (Kenny a very faithful son-in-law),of Montgomery, Rufetta Davis, Los Angelas, CA, Rosalyn Roper,(Bobby) Travis AFB, CA, Anthony Smith , Springdale, AL. Patrick Davis, USN, Newport News, VA, and her look alike baby girl, (Patrick's twin) Patricia D Wheat, of Montgomery. A devoted sister ,Evangelist Esther (Nathaniel ) Dabney, 17 grandchildren, a host of neiecs, and nephews from all over the USA, sadly her homegoing was held on February 13, 1993, on her twin grandson's (Yahari & Jason Butler) 20th birthday. She was buried, next to her beloved Rufus, and right above her son William Smith (1956-1989) in Remount Cemetary.
There will NEVER be another like OUR MOTHER !!!
She was an "earthbound Angel", who is FINALLY BACK AT HOME !
