Born December 28, 1926, in Verdunville, he was a son of the late Gid and Minerva Maynard Aldridge. Also preceding him in death was his loving wife, Mildred; four sisters: Fannie Bailey, Ethel Bailey, Sarah Jackson and Betty Hicks; one brother, Baker Aldridge; a son-in-law, Billy Ray Hurley, and a great-grandson, Billy Ray "Tre" Hurley III.
William was a devoted husband of 60 years and a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, a retired coal miner with 38 years for Buffalo Mining, and a member of the United Mine Workers Association Local 8454. He enjoyed squirrel hunting, watching Major League Baseball, maintaining his yard, and attending Davin Baptist Church when able.
Survivors include his three loving children whom he cherished: William (Jeaneil) Aldridge Jr., Debra L. Hurley and Kimberly D. (Johnny) Vance, all of Davin; nine grandchildren: Beth Aldridge (Jon) Miller of Chapmanville, Billy Ray "Bub" (Cyndi) Hurley II of Cyclone, Matt "Madison" Aldridge of Blacksburg, Va., and Becky (Jason) Mullins, Brandon and Garrett Hurley and Zachary, Malorie, and Nicholas "Knothead" Vance, all of Davin; five great-grandchildren: Baylee and Alyssa Hurley of Cyclone and Gage, Caden and Brody Mullins of Davin; one great-granddaughter, Isabella Miller, who is due in January; his caregiver and best friend, Bessie Osborne of Lorado, and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, December 27, at the Davin Baptist Church with Pastor Johnny Hatfield officiating. Burial will follow at Palm Memorial Gardens in Matheny.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Sunday and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
