Violet was born November 4, 1911 at Mt. Ayr, Iowa to William and Lefa (Price) Pratt. In 1926 the family moved to the Oakes area, and Violet graduated from Oakes High School. She married Clarence "Bud" Moore on January 24, 1934, and to this union three children were born; Vergene and twins, Lyndon and Lynette. They made their home in the Crete area until 1936, when they moved to Oakes. In 1941 they purchased their farm 4 ½ miles northwest of Oakes. They moved to their farm in 1951, the year electricity was installed. Over the years, Violet worked at the Polar Bear Ice Cream Shop, the Super Valu Grocery Store, Lincoln Oakes Nursery and the NDSU Research Site. In 1998, Bud and Violet went to live with their daughter and son-in-law, Vergene and Lauren Harrison in Groton. Bud passed away on February 6, 2001, at which time Violet continued to make her home with Vergene and Lauren, while spending time on their farm.

Violet was an active member of the Oakes United Methodist Church and the Ladies Aid. She was also a member of the Oakes Rebekah Lodge and more recently the Emerald Rebekah Lodge #75 at Redfield, South Dakota, the Climax Homemakers Club, and she was a leader of the 4-H Clement Clippers Club. Violet enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, and she especially enjoyed crocheting in the later years.

She is survived by one son, Lyndon "Bud" Moore; two daughters, Vergene "Jean" Harrison and Lynette Winters; four grandchildren; two step-granddaughters and two great-granddaughters.
