Son of James Franklin "Frank" & Mary Harrison "Mollie" Oliver Logan.

He was drafted into the US Army while working in the copper mines in Colorado. He received basic training with the 35th Machine Gun Battalion, in late 1917. Part of a five man machine gun squad, they were attached to a British Unit in England prior to going into France in mid-1918. their unit was assigned the "Third Trench" of Allied lines in September in the Ardanne Forest, where they would be recognized as having gained and held more land of any other unit on the line.

While making their final charge against a weak German defense, Marion would reach to within yards of a German machine gun emplacement, where he was confronted with a single surviving German soldier. Marion would later tell his eldest granddaughter, that he made direct eye contact with the German, noting there was only one round left in the guns belt. It was then the German squeezed off the last round, point blank. Marion "fainted" to his left, turning his right side away from the attack, the 50 MM round slammed into his right shoulder, missing his lung, went between two ribs, clipped his shoulder blade, missed his spine, by less than an inch, and exited out his back. The entrance wound was @3.5" (+/-) across, the exit wound varied by length and width, roughly between 5.5" and over 6.0".

He would survive the "Great War", and the Influenza Pandemic of 1918. After returning home to Colby Kansas, he borrowed money from his brother-in-law, Charles Parrot, and headed east to College Springs, Iowa, where he met his "future bride", Merle Evelynne Griffith. They married on 28 August 1919 in College Springs. They were married for 46 years and never left each others side.

Marion worked as a gauger for oil companies in Hawaii, and California; among those companies were Standard Oil, Wilshire Oil of California, later Shell Oil (after it bought out Wilshire).

While on the Graveyard shift (10 pm to 7am) injured on the job he was forced to retire early. He worked for the oil companies from the early 1920's until his retirement in the mid-1950's.

Member of the Midway City Citizens Council from 1963 through 1976 serving as Supervisor for the three Midway City water wells

Marion and Merle would have two daughters, Geraldine Marie "Gerry" and Beverlee Coine "Bev".

Geraldine married Lt. Mercer Fullilove Davis, of Alabama, in April 1944, they had two children, Richard Logan and Evelynne Marie.

Beverlee married John Arnold Burton in 1952. They had three children, Wayne, Ann and Scott.

Grandfather to CPO Alvin O'Neil Ritter, COL Richard Logan Davis, Myra Darrow Davis, Evelynne Marie Davis Ritter, Wayne Forrester Burton, Mark Zipkin, Beverlee Ann Burton Zipkin, and Arnold Scott Burton.

Marion was G-Grandfather to Judy Marie Ritter, Michael Patrick Davis, Diane Marie Davis, Ruth Geraldine Ritter, Elizabeth Anne Ritter, David and Matthew Zipkin of Pennsylvania,s, plus eight Burton G-Grandsons and G-Grandaughters.

"Let the generations rise up and bless his name, for he was a true, and honorable man, in whose heart G-d did dwell. And G-d did shine His countenance upon him, and granted him everlasting peace."
