Sir Ralph Abercromby was a Scottish Officer in the British Army, hero of the Napoleonic Wars and Politician.
He served in Europe during the Seven Years' War (1756-63) and led successful operations against the French in St Lucia and Trinidad (1795-6). He twice served as MP for Clackmannashire. Abercromby was injured at the Battle of Alexandria on 21st March 1801 and died of his wounds aboard HMS Foudroyant, moored in the harbour.
