Through stories passed down, she was cherished as the only daughter and her mom cried for two months when she moved out to marry her true love, Jim Alexander, in 1948.
They moved to Tranquillity in 1950 for Jim's teaching job at Tranquillity High School. Doris settled in with her family and worked hard to make a comfortable home where her two children, Gayne and Dyan, were raised. Jim and Doris moved to Fresno upon retirement in 1981 and enjoyed antiquing and taking small trips together.
She was a warm, loving woman who never knew a stranger. When she made a friend it was for life.
To say she'll be missed is an understatement. She has left a hole in our hearts that can never be filled. We are happy she's at peace with Jim and all her family. She was the last of the Smiths. We love and miss you Mom and Grandma.
Doris passed away peacefully on May 27, 2014.
She leaves behind her two children, Gayne and Dyan; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild with another on the way.
A Graveside Service will be held at Fresno Memorial Gardens on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
