Marriage to Benjamin Ross Barr.
26 Oct 1821 • Berkeley, West Virginia, USA. (also Berkeley VA as the boundries moved)

Daughter of: John Gano & (unknown) Catlett

Mary Gano Barr only had two children with Benjamin Ross Barr. Melvina Barr Olbert & Jackson Ross Barr. Any other children were had w/ his second wife.

Frances GERNEAUX was a member of the sect of Huguenots or French
Protestants who were so bitterly persecuted in the country.
in 1685, FRANCES GERENAUX, after his family was destroyed,
contrived to reach the Island of Guernsey & by friends there
was secreted in a shipping hogshead for a fortnight awaiting the
departure of a sailing vessel bound for America. In due course
of time he reached Boston harbor.
He proceeded to New Rochelle, NY, where there was a colony of
Huguenots. When upon reaching that settlement he exclaimed, "I have
been expelled from my birthplace & my property has been taken from
me for one agression---a love for the Bible & its teachings. Let my
name change w/ the circumstances." He adopted the name of GANO, the
English pronunciation of GERNEAUX, which has been used by the family
every since.
