Killed by the Cars.
E.W. Blake Run Over While Walking on the Track.

Friday morning E. W. Blake, of New Centerville, who had been staying in town several days started to walk out to the Mines.

He was quite deaf, and was warned against walking on the track. But he did not heed the warning.

The work train, Jesse James engineer, was pushing a number of cars of slag ahead of the engine up the grade. John Rebb and Adolph Simonson were on the cars; both engineer and fireman were busy in the cab. Mr. Blake could not hear the cars coming, and the shouts of the brakeman had no effect. He was killed instantly.

A coroner's jury, consisting of W. H. McKernon, Millard Parker, M. Moffatt, T. H. Allen, Jas. Rasmussen, and J. K. Peterson, brought in a verdict exhonorating (sic) the train men.

The accident occurred almost at the point where Mr. Bailey was killed two years ago. Mr. Bailey it will be remembered, was also deaf.

Mr. Blake, who was one of the oldest settlers in the county, would have been seventy-nine years old the 29th of this month. He had no home, boarding wherever he felt like, and being out fishing most of the time. One daughter, Mrs. O.C. Ford, of Marriam Park, Minn., survives him; she was called here by telegraph Friday.

The funeral occurred at New Centerville Sunday, a Dowieite preaching the sermon.. Mrs. Ford belongs to that persuasion. The body was taken from here by the hearse.
