NAME: Margaret M. Ware/Wear.
FATHER: Colonel Samuel Wear.
MOTHER: Mary Gilliland.
HUSBAND: David B. Cumming.

*Margaret M. Ware/Wear was born April 14, 1813, in Sevier County, Tennessee. Margaret's *father* was Colonel Samuel Wear (1753-1817), son of Robert Wear and Rebecca Carrell. Margaret's *mother* was Mary Gilliland, daughter of John Gilliand, and Elizabeth Young. [NOTE: It appears that Mary Gilliand Wear may have been the 2nd wife of Colonel Samuel Wear].

REV. DAVID B. CUMMING,
HUSBAND OF MARGARET WARE/WEAR:

Reverend David B. Cumming (1796-1880) was married three times and outlived each of his beloved wives. Over the span of his three marriages, David B. Cumming became the father of sixteen children.

David B. Cumming and his 2nd wife, Margaret M. Wear, were united in marriage on November 12, 1835, probably in Tennessee or the Cherokee Nation.
David and Margaret (Wear) Cumming became the parents of four children, as follows:

1) Pleasant Wear Harvey Cumming (1836-).
2) Mary Caroline Cumming (1838-1946).
3) Helen Mar Cumming (1841-1890).
4) Diana C. Cumming (1842-1877).

In addition to providing care and love to her own children, Margaret also served as a devoted stepmother to David's children by his first wife, Caroline (Lowry) Cumming, who had died May 18, 1832, in Tennessee.
[NOTE: Children of David and Caroline (Lowry) Cumming were: 1. James Andrew Cumming; 2. Jane Esther Cumming; 3. Harriet Matilda Cumming; and, 4. Jesse H. Cumming].

Rev. David Barclay Cumming was a Methodist preacher and circuit rider; and, his second wife, Margaret (Ware) Cumming, frequently accompanied him to the mission field.
According to the "Southwestern Christian Advocate," [published by the Methodist Episcopal Church], "Margaret M. Cumming, wife of Rev. David B. Cumming, died June 14, 1844, at the age of 32."
She and her husband, David B. Cumming, had been married for eight [8] years at the time of her death.
*At the present time, it is not known if Margaret died at their home in Newton County, Missouri [present day McDonald Co., Mo.], or, while in the mission field with Rev. Cumming, [in Indian Territory; present-day Oklahoma].

With a houseful of motherless children to care for, Rev. Cumming was in need of a loving and supportive wife and helpmate. He married Frances Bell Webster (1817-1874) in about 1845; and, they became the parents of eight additional children: 1. David Lowry Cumming; 2. William Taylor Cumming; 3. Margaret Eugenia Isabella Cumming; 4. Mary Frances Elizabeth Cumming; 5. Caroline Laurene Cumming; 6. Thomas Paxton Cumming; 7. Ann Eliza Findley Cumming; and, 8. Fannie Scott Cumming.

Mrs. Francis Cumming, 3rd wife of David B. Cumming, passed away in 1874.

Rev. David B. Cumming died in 1880, and is buried beside Francis, his last wife, in McDonald County, Missouri.
