Funeral services for Harvey W. Ashford, 78, who died at his home on East 18th street Wednesday, April 20, were held at the First Christian Church Thursday morning at ten o'clock, with the Rev. John L. Sennett officiating. Burial was in the Georgetown, Ky. cemetery, with a graveside service being held there in the afternoon. H.S. Smith Funeral Home was in charge.
Mr. Ashford was born in Luray, Kas. on January 2, 1877, moving to Missouri when a boy and attending schools Jerico and at Birch Tree, Mo. In 1901 the family moved to Pueblo, Colo. and on August 24, 1904 at Pueblo, he was married to Miss Estella Augusta Peerman.
For 38 years he was employed as a United States Postal clerk, working in Colorado and Kentucky and retiring in 1940. Since that time the family has lived in Lexington, Ky., St. Petersburg, Fla. and Cape Girardeau, moving to this city last July 11. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of America, the Royal Neighbors lodge and he had been a member of the Christian Church for many years, always taking an active part in its work.
He is survived by his wife; two daughters Mrs. Stanley Bush of this city and Mrs. Tom Harris of Ft. Knox, Ky.; two sons, Ed Ashford of Lexington, Ky. and Charles Ashford of Cocoa, Fla. and eleven grandchildren.
