Mildred W. Anderson, 91, of Humboldt, Iowa, died Friday, January 31, 2003, at Heritage Manor Nursing Home in Staunton, Illinois. Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 4, 10 a.m. at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marino, Illinois, with Rev. C. Miller Hurst officiating. Burial was in Forever Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, Illinois, under direction of Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home.
She was born March 3, 1911, the daughter of Earl and Bessie Jane Belden Custer at Castana, Iowa. She grew up in that area and moved to Correctionville for her high school education. She taught school for three years and then married a high school classmate, Donald R. Anderson, on March 26, 1932. They lived in Correctionville and then she and her husband lived in a number of areas as he followed the Operating Engineer profession in construction. They moved to O'Fallon, Illinois, in 1953 and then to Marine, Illinois, in 1962. Her husband died in 1988. She has been a nursing home resident since 1999. She enjoyed doing fancy work and crocheting, playing the piano, working puzzles and her family.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Stanley (Karen J.) Klein of Marine, Illinois, three grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Jerry (Donna Belle) Hayden of Chicago. She was preceded by her husband, her parents, a stillborn son, Donald, three sisters, LaVonne Wingert, Lola Beaver, and Ona Mae Schuldt, and four brothers, Everette, Lester, Belden and Darrell Custer.
Burial: 04 February 2003, Forever Valley View Cemetery, Edwardsville, Madison Co., Illinois
