In 1900 August and his half brother, Alexander, were living in Leavenworth, Kansas. August and Alex moved to Ellsworth Co., Kansas in the summer of 1903. August was admitted as a citizen of the U.S. on 26 Apr 1921 at a regular term of the District Court in Ellsworth Co., Kansas. He met his future wife, Lydia Woldt, in the summer of 1904 while working with a threshing crew.
