Florence was born in Yeadon, Yorkshire, England and came to America in 1892 by herself. She was joining her mother, step-father and 2 half-sisters who had already made the voyage. She and James Carden married in Camden, New Jersey in 1893. Later that year they had their first child, John Edward Carden. He was called Ed and died in 1966 in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.
