Joseph Benton Hughes, born January 1 1884, was the 5th son, one of 10 children, of Joseph Henry and Eliza Jane Hamilton Hughes. He married Nellie Rosetta Tindell on October 25, 1904.

- Cura Myra (aka Myra Kathryn)Hughes married twice:

- Elsie Jean Hughes wed Leslie Jordan.
- Paul Benton Hughes married Reba unknown.
- Eliza Ellen Hughes married James E. Newhouse.
- Lucy Jewel Hughes never married.
- Arthur Evans Hughes wed twice: (1) Merle Grace Wertman; (2) Nellie Leas Weston
- Hilda Pearl Hughes Colyott.
Nellie died September 21, 1928. Joseph Benton died April 12, 1946 at Glover, Missouri. According to granddaughter, Anna Lorene LaPlant(e) Minieri, both Joseph and Nellie are buried in the Bowles Cemetery.
