Kenton Bartgis who was shot at Hilldale Monday evening by E G Wheeler of near Clayton, and seriously injured, died last night at eleven o'clock at the Hinton Hospital, where he was taken for surgical treatment.

He was shot thru the bowels and atho there seemed to be considerable hope for his recovery after he underwent an operation, complications set in and his condition was serious all day yesterday and his death was not unexpected last night by those familiar with his condition.

The funeral services will be conducted on Friday afternoon at the First Baptist Church, by Rev Yates after which the remains will be buried at Hill Top Cemetery.

Mr Bartgis was a son of Lewis N Bartgis, a fomer C & O engineer but who now resides on a farm near Wiggins. The deceased only lacked a few days of being 21 years of age and was a young man with many friends. He had been breaking on the C &O for the past two years and was getting along nicely.
In addition to his father and mother, he leaves five brothers, George of Bellepoint, William, John, Joseph and Mack of Wiggins, and three sisters, Mrs Howard Miller and Mrs T H Hedrick of Hinton, and Mrs J W Cook, who is now at Terra Alta for the benefit of her health.

The deceased was a member of the Freedom Baptist Church of Powleys Creek and had been for the past few years.

He was a young man in the prime of health and his sad death is much regretted by his numerous friends here and elsewhere, where he was known. The family have the sympathy of their many friends in their sad hour.
