Horatio Belt and his first wife, Spicey (nee Drake according to the 1872 Jersey County Atlas), had one son, Francis Thomas. Spicey died April 22, 1820 at age 21. Thomas was a steamboat captain and was killed in a steamboat explosion. He is buried in Lax Cemetery in Jersey County.

Horatio married Mary J. West in St. Clair County, Ill, in April 1821. She was born March 6, 1805 near Danville, Va. She died June 23, 1888 at age 83. Horatio died Jan. 8, 1870 at age 73.
