BRASHEARS, Dutch, of Chelsea, passed away Tuesday, April 20, 2004 at the age of 88, after a lengthy illness born south of Mannford in 1916, Dutch was the eighth of thirteen children of Bessie and Charles. He was a cowboy at heart and while owning numerous businesses throughout his lifetime, his interests always included horses and cattle. He was seldom seen without a western hat, boots and a horse nearby. Among his numerous business ventures were I.J. Dutch Brashears Trucking in Sapulpa, the Heyburn Trading Post, near Bristow, and oil, cattle and horse interests in Sapulpa, Mannford and Chelsea. Only failing health caused him to retire in recent years from the ranching activities that he loved. Dutch was preceded in death by: his wife, Mildred; 4 sisters, Lela, Effie, Reba and Bertha; and 2 brothers, Clarence and Buster. Survivors include 3 children, Evelyn Haught and husband, Ernest, Sharon Moody, Roy Brashears and wife, Jean, all of Sapulpa; 6 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 4 sisters, Opal Merrell, Irene Ransom, Edna Anderson and Dorothy Mellenberger; and 2 brothers, Lee Brashears and Fred Brashears, all now living in the Fresno, CA area; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral arrangements are by Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa. Service will be held at the Smith Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2004. Interment will be at the Dawes Cemetery, Chelsea, OK at 4 p.m., Friday, April 23, 2004. Memorial Donations may be made to the Chelsea Senior Citizens Center, P.O. Box 172, Chelsea, OK 74016.
