Yachtsman. Son of Emile A. Bruguiere and Jospehine Sather Bruguiere (d. 1915); the daughter of San Francisco banker Pedar Sather; founder of Sather Banking & Co. Growing up in his early days in San Francisco, he later spent summers with his mother at their summer residence, 'Castlewood', at Newport, Rhode Island. In 1915, Mr. Bruguiere was traveling with his mother aboard the 'Arabic' ocean liner when it was hit by a German torpedo, which sunk within 10 minutes. Mrs. Bruguiere did not survive. In 1948, he married Margaret "Daisy" Van Alen, an heiress of the Vanderbilt family. An avid yachtsman, he was a member of the New York Yacht Club and the New Rochelle Yacht Club. Bruguiere was also a member of the Newport Reading Room, Spouting Rock Beach Association and the Newport Casino. (bio by Tyler Hughes)
