A memorial service for Merle Blosser will be held Monday, October 8, 2007, at 10:00 AM at the meadow of Spirit Ranch, approximately one (1) mile west of the intersection of North I-27 and Regis. Merle died early Tuesday morning, October 2nd at UMC.

Merle was born May 6, 1948, in Oklahoma City, Okla. He was a graduate of Azle High School and Texas Tech University '71 earning two (2) degrees in Industrial Management and Marketing. Merle married Connie Sterling of Snyder, TX on Jan. 9, 1971, and they have remained residents of Lubbock for over 36 years.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1971-73 as a Pershing Missile Instructor in the 5th Army, Ft. Sill, Okla. Merle then began a long career in the real estate appraisal profession and was widely recognized as the leading commercial real estate appraisal resource in West Texas. He served on the faculty of the Texas Tech University Rawls School of Business teaching in his field of expertise. His client list consists of major professional firms, developers, business and real estate lenders in his area of service. He was active in numerous real estate appraisal professional organizations.

Merle served on a variety of community and business boards too extensive to list. He was particularly proud of his service as founding President of the Ronald McDonald House, Board of Elders - Westminster Presbyterian Church, Executive Board - Young Life, Board of Directors - Carillon Senior Life Care Community and President - Southwest Lubbock Rotary. Merle held a variety of leadership positions and served as a driving force in various appointed committees dedicated to the growth and expansion of Lubbock. Most recently he served on the Board of Directors of the Downtown Redevelopment Commission as well as and advisor to the Citizens Advisory Committee for Capital Improvement Planning/Bond Steering Committee.

He was an avid golfer and tennis player, loved Texas Tech baseball and basketball and was actively involved in the events and activities of his children and grandchildren.

Merle is survived by his wife, Connie Sterling Blosser; daughter, Shea Blosser and her 2 children, Scout and Cutter; daughter, Brooke Neal and her husband Tyler and daughter Emerson. He is also survived by his mother, Virginia Flippo and her husband Mark; and a sister, Nancy Schultz.
