At age 19, Major moved to California. He was employed in a furniture factory, making 50 cents an hour. Major attended watch-making school and, after becoming proficient working with close tolerant tools, was employed by Rockwell International, where he worked as a navigational instrument mechanic. He and Elizabeth moved to Bellingham, WA, in 2001.
Major is survived by his wife, Elizabeth; three sons, Mitchell, Michael (Dave), and Bruce; two daughter-in-laws, Janet and Barbara; two grandchildren, Alec Major and Erin Rae; and one sister, Velma Ames of Fort Worth, TX.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, April 22, 2008, at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00 PM at Northwest Baptist Church in Bellingham. Joe LoMusio, Major's former pastor from California, will officiate, along with Ryan Jensema, pastor of Northwest Baptist Church.
