"Mrs. Kathern Zimmerman, 88, died at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at the Heritage Rest Home in Girard. She was born February 14, 1881, near Pawnee Station, Kansas. She was married to Charles H. Zimmerman in 1899. He died December 3, 1921.
She had been a Hepler resident since 1928. She was a member of the Hepler Christian Church.
Survivors include five sons: William "Mannie" Zimmerman, Arcadia; John Zimmerman, rural Ft. Scott; Charles H. Zimmerman, American Falls, Idaho; Fielding Zimmerman, Williams, Arizona; and Glen Zimmerman, Centralia, Kansas; three daughters: Mrs. Violet Stelljes, Parsons, Kansas; Mrs. Ray (Pearl) Bockelman, Williams, Arizona; and Mrs. John (Corine) Miller, Topeka, Kansas; two sisters: Mrs. Bessie Chambers, rural Ft. Scott; and Mrs. Hattie Fields, Wichita, Kansas; one brother: Harry Dugan, Great Bend, Kansas; 29 grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the W.D. Smith Funeral Home, Girard.
Pallbearers will be Paul Hager, Harvey Goff, Raymond Winterblower, Wesley Goff, and Norris Attkinsson.
Burial will be in the Hepler Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the W.D. Smith Chapel. Services will be
conducted by Rev. Joe Howe."
There is also a family story that Kathern was disinherited by her wealthy family when she married Charles Zimmerman, but the reason for this is unclear.
