Services for Glen L. Bierig, 69, Arkansas City, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hawks Funeral Home in Arkansas City. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery, Arkansas City, with military services.

Mr. Bierig died Sunday, Feb. 7, 1993, at Arkansas City Memorial Hospital.

He was born April 9, 1923, near Isabelle, Okla., the son of Jacob Neldon and Mary Jester Bierig. He grew up southeast of Okeene, Okla., and graduated from Okeene High School in 1941. He attended the National Youth Association School in Enid, Okla., until January 1942, when he went to work for the Boeing Aircraft Co. in Wichita.

Mr. Bierig served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He served with the 28th Cavalry Reconaissance Squadron attached to the 3rd Army under Gen. George C. Patton. He was awarded three battle stars and three bronze stars and survived the Battle of the Bulge.

He went to work for the Acton Co. in 1946 and later worked as a U.S. Postal Service letter carrier in Arkansas City until retiring in 1986. He was a bartender for 28 years at the Puritan Pool Hall in downtown Arkansas City.

Mr. Bierig was a life member of the Spencer Ralston Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1254, the Shelton Beaty American Legion Post No. 18 and the National Rifle Assn.

He married Doris Dye on June 29, 1942, in Fairview, Okla. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two sons, James L., Shreveport, La., and Jon, Lawrence; a daughter, Darla Cellers, Arkansas City; four brothers, Walter and Earl, Okeene, Okla., Bob, Solvang, Calif., and Ray, Euless, Tex.; nine grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
