In 1933 Josie was united in marriage to Leon Novotny and he preceded her in death in 1946. On September 20, 1958 she married Ralph Bell at the Methodist Church in Howard, Kansas and he preceded her in death in 1994. She was a homemaker. Josie was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, fishing and gardening.
Josie is survived by two sons; Norman Novotny and his wife Lynda and Robert Novotny and his wife Barbara all of Wichita, Kansas, one daughter Gwen Menz and her husband Bill of O'Fallin, Illinois, two brothers Joe Truhlar of Ellsworth, Kansas and Buddy Truhlar of Salina, Kansas, 6 grandchildren; Jayme Reida and husband Dan, Darren Harding, Robert Novotny Jr. and wife Susie, Sandra Novotny, Karen Luke and husband Randy and Ann Gardner and husband Mike, 9 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 11 brothers and sisters and one grandson Brian Novotny.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Countryside – Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas with Pastor Charles Cryderman officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Moline Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to the Kansas Humane Society and may be left with the funeral home.
