Sheldon E. Diltz
Self-employed carpenter enjoyed antique cars
Sheldon E. Diltz, 73, of Weaver Lane, Catawissa, went home to be with his Lord early Sunday morning, March 14, 2010, at the Bloomsburg Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for about a month. He had been in failing health since the summer of 2009.
He was born May 3, 1936, in Bloomsburg, and was a son of the late Alvin and Mrytle Benjamin Diltz.
As a young man, Sheldon worked for his father, he then worked for Leroy Canouse and John Johnson. He later became self-employed as a carpenter doing roofing and siding for 30 years, retiring in 1993. Following retirement, he did odd jobs for his former customers.
Sheldon attended Bloomsburg Baptist Church; was a member of the Antique Car Club, in Berwick; Dream Machines Car Club, Catawissa, and liked bowling. He enjoyed antique cars, loved carnivals and country music, was a fantastic good man, never had to advertise his business, was an honest very hard worker. He was family oriented, loved his kids and grandkids, had a great sense of humor and loved four-wheeling and he also played horseshoes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Sherry Diltz, and a brother, Doyle Diltz.
He is survived by his wife, the former Sandra Gearinger, originally of Berwick, and they would have observed their 53rd wedding anniversary on Aug. 10, 2010. He also is survived by a son, Shawn Diltz and his wife Tracy of Mifflinville; two daughters: Shelly Sudduth and her husband Robert, of Winfield, Sonya Swisher and her husband Mark, of Berwick; six grandchildren: Jamie Sudduth, Bobbi Jo Herman and her husband Shawn, Sherry, and Shannon Swisher, Tyler and Shawna Diltz; four great-grandchildren: Cameron Sudduth, Brayden, Brianna, and Connor Herman; a brother, Ronnie Diltz and his wife Ann, of Orangeville; two sisters: Betty Fenstamaker, and Margie Mensinger and her husband Byron, all of Almedia, and numerous nieces and nephews.
