He attended schools in White River Junction and South Strafford and in 1979 graduated from Hanover High School (Hanover NH). He also attended Carnegie-Mellon University. He was active in theater work since the age of 12 and founded the Strafford Student Theater at age 15. He worked in New Hampshire, England, Ireland, Missouri, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, and Vermont as a stage designer. He was lately an interior designer for Dorothy Draper Co. in New York. Survivors are his mother and stepfather, Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Varney of South Strafford; his father of Wilder; a brother, Todd R. Bean of Washington, NC; a sister, Abigail Bean of South Strafford; a stepbrother, David Varney of Clearwater FL.; his grandparents, Hedwige Bean of Concord, NH, Mr. and Mrs. N. Winthrop Gregory of Charlestown, NH and Mabel Varney of South Strafford; several aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Stafford United Church, the Rev. Howard F. Boardman officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in South Strafford.
