She was born in Reading to the late Robert and Nora (Kurtz) Reider and was the wife of Clarence Echternacht, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage.
Joey was a member of St. John's UCC, Denver. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, where she held the office of Worthy Matron. Joey loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, the beach and at one time enjoyed fishing. During her working years, Joey was a data entry clerk for Hyero-Kirby, and formerly worked at Miller Hess Shoe Company.
In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by 2 daughters, Susan, wife of Ed Vidzicki of Denver, Mary, wife of Russell Updike of Denver; 5 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; and a sister, Nancy, wife of Donald Youndt of Denver.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell J. Reider and a sister, Charlotte Hoster.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, July 26, from 6 to 8 pm, at the Roseboro Stradling Funeral Home, 533 Walnut St., Denver, followed by an Eastern Star Service at 8 pm. An additional viewing will be on Friday, from 9 to 10 am, at the St. John's UCC, 659 S. 4th Street, Denver, followed by funeral services held at 10 am, with Pastor David Brumbaugh officiating. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
