Our beloved Franklin Jay Kivel passed away on May 20, 2017. He was born in Los Angeles, California on January 21, 1942. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Susan Sheffel Kivel of Oklahoma City, daughter Lisa Kivel of San Diego, California and daughter Lori Kivel Sheffield and son-in-law Benjamin Sheffield of Austin, Texas. Frank also had five grandchildren: Blair Thomas Goldstein, Brittan Ilana Goldstein and Dylan Shawn Goldstein of San Diego, CA and Zander Mitchell Sheffield and Julian Ray Sheffield of Austin, TX. He earned his B.A. and M.S. degrees from the University of Southern California and his J.D. degree from Oklahoma City University. Frank was an attorney with many years' experience in estate planning, taxation and probate law and lectured before professional and civic groups many times on these subjects. He has been a temporary judge of the Oklahoma Court of Appeals and a hearing officer of both the Oklahoma Tax Commission and the Department of Education. He was the Vice Chairman of the Public Information Committee of the Oklahoma Bar Association and Chairman of the Fee Grievance and Ethics Committee of the Oklahoma County Bar Association. He was also an esteemed professor at various higher education institutions in Oklahoma City and past President of the Men's Club at Temple B'nai Israel. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, May 25th, at 3pm at Temple B'nai Israel 4901 North Pennsylvania Avenue in Oklahoma City. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to the charity of your choice in Frank's memory.
