Bertha Ellenburg Kelly Gales, 87, passed away Monday, September 25, 2017.

Born in Easley, SC, she was the daughter of the late Roy D. Ellenburg and Zelle Ellenburg Pepper. She was a graduate of Girls High School, Lander University and received her Masters Degree in Education from Clemson University. She was a retired Guidance Counselor at Westside High School. Mrs. Gales was a Charter Member of Boulevard Baptist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, served on various church committees, member of Adult Choir and Handbell Choir and was a Deacon. During retirement years, she volunteered at Anderson Interfaith Ministries, Meals on Wheels, one of volunteers to bake birthday cakes for Hospice residents, and was a Board Member of Anderson County Mental Health Association.

Survivors include sons, Thomas E. Kelly of Atlanta, GA, Keenan D. Kelly and wife, Beth of Abbeville, and John T. Kelly of Anderson; daughter, Susan Kelly Foust and husband, Michael “Butch” Foust of Athens, GA; grandsons, Joshua and Brett Kelly of Abbeville; granddaughters, Lindy and Laura Foust of Athens, GA; stepson, Stephen Gales and wife, Arleane of Starr; step-granddaughters, Stephanie G. DeResseau of Hutto, TX, and Erin Gales Selvage of Belle Chasse, LA; and three sisters, Mary E. Oakley of Greenville, Polly E. Evans of St. Petersburg, FL, and Lorene E. Monroe of Orlando, FL.

She was twice married, first to the late Thomas E. Kelly, Sr. and second to the late Everett E. Gales.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, September 27, at Boulevard Baptist Church conducted by Dr. Jack Couch. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
