Ron, "Sluggo" to his friends, moved to San Clemente, CA in 1958. In 1963 he graduated from Capistrano High School where he lettered in varsity football. He spent eight years as a lifeguard on the San Clemente beaches. As a helicopter mechanic for the U.S. Army he spent two years in Germany. Ron moved down the coast in 1970 to northern San Diego County where he lived in Vista, and finally Carlsbad. He loved to surf and owned a collection of custom made surfboards by Walden, Hobie, Dale Velzy and Rick James. Skilled in building custom fiberglass boats he owned the Dingy Dory Co., first operating out of his San Clemente garage and eventually from his State Street shop in Carlsbad. In the 1990s Ron also worked as a driver for the Hobie Cat Company in Oceanside. He succombed to a heart attack.
A service in celebration of Ron's life was held at 6 pm Friday July 1, 2005 on the San Clemente beach north of the pier near his favorite lifeguard tower No. 2.
