Son of Thomas Dexter and his wife Mary Mercy Fish.

Elisha married Lydia Smith and they had at least 10 children.

Elisha married 12 Dec 1757 the daughter of Samuel and Zepporah Morse Smith in Mansfield, Tolland County, Connecticut which is where his parents are buried at Storres in Mansfield.

Lydia's parents are buried at Ashford, Wyndam County, Connecticut.

Elisha's resting place is not know - it could be Avon, Livingston, New York where is wife was later buried or he may be in Connecticut, or he could be anywhere between the several homes.

Thanks to findagrave contributor Susan S who adds in the 1790 Federal Census he was living in Willsborough, Clinton County, New York. Susan added two of his sons were listed at the same time - Elisha Jr and Thomas and his daughter Phebe passed in Livingston County, New York and his son Amos died in 1851 in Essex County, New York.

I was not able to prove the addition suggested. I was able to see The History of Barrington and that does not mention the War Service record. I am open to adding a war service record if we can verify the record

Cousin B Anderson added an important correction 2017:

In your bio for Elisha Dexter, Sr. Married to Lydia Smith, you mention that a contributor stated that Elisha Dexter, Jr. passed in New York. It is true that Elisha Dexter, Jr. lived in Clinton, New York during the 1790 census. However, by 1798, Elisha and his family had moved to York, Ontario, Canada. Elisha, Jr. died intestate on the 18 Nov. 1818 in York Twp. – As one researcher has stated, “Letters of Administration in estate of Elisha Dexter, Jr. of the Twp of York, Yeoman deceased (who died about 18 Nov 1818, intestate): Petition by (and administration given to) Ransom Dexter of the Twp of Trafalgar" eldest son, 25 Jan 1819 County of York, Canada. Signed by Ransom Dexter.” And further, “January 25, 1819 - Elisha Dexter Probate administered by eldest son Ransom Dexter of the Township of Trafalgar Yeoman Elijah Dexter of the Town of York Carpenter and Alexander Burnside of said Town Surgeon of the Home District of the Province of Upper Canada. (reference Archives of Ontario microfilm reel MS 638, Reel 79).” I do not have a burial location, or I would make a memorial. Anyway, thought this would help in clarifying what happened to Elisha Dexter, Jr. Elisha, Jr. was in the Revolutionary War as a patriot. I have copies of some of his records bearing his signature (which has Jr. after the name).
