Adventurer. Known for many mountain climbing and kayaking expeditions, he was considered by many as one of Australia's most accomplished sea kayakers. In 2003 he became the first to cross the Bass Strait, non-stop. On January 11, 2007 he embarked on a solo expedition to cross the Tasman Sea. Within 80 kilometers of the coast of New Zealand, he sent out a distress call that he was sinking. After a two day air and sea search, he was presumed drowned. His adventure was the subject of the National Geographic Channel's "Solo: Lost at Sea".
