Betty Lou (Fight) Casebolt , 83, passed away on September 24, 2011, at Kansas City Hospice House. Visitation will be from 4 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, and a memorial service to follow at 5 p.m. at McGilley Memorial Chapels, 12301 State Line Rd, Kansas City, Mo.

Betty Casebolt is survived by her four sons, Buford Kenton Casebolt , DDS (retired) of Osceola, Mo., Joseph Milton Casebolt of Grandview, Mo., Anthony Dean (Tony) Casebolt , of Kansas City,
and Bryan Thomas Casebolt of Grand Forks, North Dakota. Betty's greatest joy in life included any activities with her beloved grandchildren, Benjamin Joseph Casebolt , Rachel Anne Casebolt , Jason Michael Casebolt , and Andrew Thomas Casebolt , all in the Kansas City area. Betty is also survived by two sisters, Dorothy Jean Richards of Independence, Mo., and Nancy Lee Fryer of Lee's Summit, Mo., and her many devoted nephews. Betty is preceded in death by her parents, Flavius Josephus (Joe) Fight and Thelma Blanche (Fisk) Fight, her step- brother, Raymond Wilson Plummer, her sister, Thelma Estelle Fight, and her brother, Simon Kenton Fight. Betty Casebolt was born on Feb. 19, 1928, in the small town of Fiskburg in Kenton County, Ky., to Flavius and Thelma Fight. Betty's family relocated to El Paso, Texas, in 1930 where they lived until 1944. She attended Stephen F. Austin High School in El Paso, then considered one of the largest high schools in the South, and graduated with honors in 1944 at age 16. In 1944 the family moved to Missouri, where they owned a farm near Sedalia. They settled in the nearby college town of Warrensburg, Mo. Betty attended Central Missouri State College (now University of Central Missouri) for three years. She transferred to University of Missouri at Columbia in 1947 at age 19 to pursue advanced studies in the field of medicine. She returned to Central Missouri State College in 1949 to graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology and Chemistry. She worked briefly for Hallmark Cards as an artist in 1950. Prior to her marriage to Dr. Buford Thomas Casebolt in 1954, she worked at Research Hospital in Surgical Scheduling and taught science at Linn High School during the 1953-1954 school year. Betty Casebolt 's life centered around her family. She enjoyed many activities: art, gardening, cooking, and was an avid reader. She returned to the work force in 1974 after her children were grown and worked for Mill Mutual as an insurance rater for grain elevators. She officially retired in 1994.
