James Walton was born in Allen County, Ohio, March 10th, 1841 and died at the home of his son, in O'Neill, Nebraska, August 9th, 1930. At the age of 89 years and 5 months.

In 1866 he united in marriage to Miss Lydia Butterfield and to this union were born five children, four sons and one daughter. His wife and one son have preceded him to the great beyond. The children left to mourn his departure are Grant, of O'Neill; Willard of Niobrara; Henry of Winner, South Dakota; Elsie of Spokane, Washington.

In February 1862, Mr. Walton joined Company F of Buchanan County and served until 1865, when he received an honorable discharge.

In 1878 he homesteaded in Know County, Nebraska, where he lived for fifty-two years. After which he lived a few years in the Soldiers home in Grand Island and with his son in O'Neill. A true brave soldier, a loving father has gone to his last resting place.

The pall-bearers were his six grandsons; Sam Walton of Boone, Iowa; Leonard and Barton Walton of O'Neill; Cecil Walton of Center, Nebraska; Floyd Walton of Creighton, Nebraska; James Walton of Niobrara, Nebraska.

Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Sam McKoewn at Venus, M. E. Church, Monday afternoon at two o'clock assisted by the American Legion of Page. Burial was made in the Enterprise Cemetery.
