United States World War I Marine. He served during World War I as a 2nd Lieutenant the 80th Company, 2nd Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, 2nd Division, AEF. He was mortally wounded on June 3, 1918 during the Battle of Belleau Woods, and died in a hospital on July 3, 1918 near Paris, France. He was been wounded in action two other times previous to his mortal wounding.

He lies buried in the Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France in Plot B, Row 7, Grave 59. A cenotaph was erected for him in his family's plot in Laurel Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
