Cpl. Parker, 34, had worked for the East Point, Georgia Police Department for six years. Colleagues described her as a kind person and devoted employee. Her devotion to her job and her kind personality made her a leader among peers, fellow officers and family members. In 2012, Parker was voted East Point's Officer of the Year, had a personnel file full of accolades and was in line for a promotion. She was found dead at her home a year later of a single gunshot wound to the head. Police soon charged an ex-roommate with her murder. Police have not speculated on a motive for her slaying. Parker may have been dead for as long as 3 days prior to being discovered by fellow officers.
