Johnnie L. Edgmon, 69, died Feb. 26, 1998, at the Alaska Regional Hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, Eighth Avenue and E Street. Barbara Bennett of Bean's Cafe will officiate. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service. Mr. Edgmon's ashes will be interred this spring in the Fort Richardson National Cemetery. Mr. Edgmon was born Aug. 24, 1928, in Earlsboro, Okla., to S. Arthur and Birtie Edgmon. He served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952, and came to Alaska in 1955. Mr. Edgmon worked as a mechanic for Alaska Sales & Service and JC Penney, and was a truck driver and heavy equipment operator and mechanic on the North Slope. He loved country and classical music. Mr. Edgmon's friends said: ''Johnnie will be remembered for his special humor, even in times of difficulty, his great jokes and teasing, his deep compassion and generosity to those who had less than he, and his devotion to his family and friends.'' Mr. Edgmon was preceded in death by his wife, Joan; three sons, Richard, Butch and Billy; and his parents. He is survived by his son, John; four brothers, Homer, Samuel, David and Silas; sisters, Alice McDow and Ellen Sanches; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be sent to Bean's Cafe, 1101 East Third Ave., Anchorage 99501. Arrangements are by Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
