Crimean War Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Sergeant in the 97th Regiment of Foot, Queen's Own Royal West Kent. At Sebastopol, India, August 30, 1855, when the enemy attacked the working party Sergeant Coleman was in, he remained in the open, exposed to the enemy's rifle fire until all round him had been killed or wounded. He finally carried one of his officers who was mortally wounded, to the rear. For most prestigious gallantry, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal and was later was killed in action, Lucknow, India, on May 21, 1858.
