World War II Victoria Cross Medal Recipient. He served as a Naik (Corporal) in the 2nd Battalion, 5th Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army. At Manipur, India, on June 26, 1944, Naik Ram was in an attack on British posts which had been taken by the enemy. Under constant enemy fire, he charged a machine-gun killing three of the crew. He then led a group on an enemy machine-gun firing from the jungle, killing three of the crew and tackled an isolated bunker single-handed, killing all four occupants. For extreme bravery in the face of the enemy, he was awarded the Victoria Cross Medal on January 23, 1945.
